The iconic Manhattan—a stirred mix of whiskey, vermouth, and bitters— is easily one of the most riffed-upon cocktails. This variation from Audrey Saunders of Pegu Club in NYC starts with rye and vermouth, then adds Cynar amaro to appealing effect.

    Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

2 oz. rye whiskey
¾ oz. sweet vermouth
½ oz. Cynar amaro
2 Luxardo maraschino cherries, skewered on a cocktail pick

Preparation

  1. In an ice-filled large measuring cup, combine 2 oz. rye whiskey, ¾ oz. sweet vermouth, and ½ oz. Cynar amaro. Stir well, then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with 2 Luxardo maraschino cherries, skewered on a cocktail pick.
