Ingredients

1 navel orange
2 jiggers (3 ounces) dry red wine
1 pony (1 ounce) dark rum
2 teaspoons superfine granulated sugar
1/3 to 2/3 cup chilled seltzer

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Beginning at the navel end and working around the orange, remove the rind with a lemon zester to form an unbroken spiral strip.

    Step 2

    In a tall glass, combine wine, rum and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved and arrange the orange spiral in the glass, hooking one end of it over the edge. Fill glass with ice and add seltzer.
